About Jonathan Philpott

Hello, my name is Jon! My work focuses on branding, illustration/animation and campaign development. The projects that I enjoy the most are where I can develop visual identities that have a community focus and help the business owner connect with real people who share their values.

For me, one of the most rewarding parts of this year was having the opportunity to apply my skills towards developing Fellow Artisan, a small-batch ceramic and handmade goods business I will be launching this summer. It gave me the opportunity to gain valuable feedback from many incredible mentors and teachers, while applying new skills to grow in a practical manner.

Fellow Artisan

Project Overview

Fellow Artisan is my personal branding project for my ceramic craft business, which is launching this summer. I pursued this brand through several classes, combining projects to create a full scope campaign that is ready is start upon graduation.

This project allowed me to develop my logo, brand guide, website, several print assets as well as a line of functional work, packaging, and motion graphics. It was also a great opportunity to work through the challenges of launching a brand with oversight from great mentors, in an environment of inspiration and focus.

The work is focused on highlighting the connection between craft and community, and the visual language intends to instil in the consumer a sense of collaboration and familiarity between patron and artisan.

Wee All Stay

Project Overview

Wee All Stay is a small business located in Lucky Lake, Saskatchewan, where I am from. They operate a number of fully accessible tiny cabins which are available for three-season short stay rental.

For this project I developed a functional but accessible brand guide for them, including a logo, brand guide, social media template, and a gift certificate. The client was interested in branding that conveyed a sense of comfort and familiarity, while also expressing a sophisticated but friendly voice.

Flatbrush Font

Project Overview

Flatbush is a font based in the tradition of sign painting. It takes reference from vintage sans serif fonts used in the mid 2oth century, invoking a sense of classic style, with intentional imperfections and a loose but structured approach to type development.

This font is intended to be used by artists, crafts people, and businesses who want their branding to have a sense of humanism and a traditional but contemporary aesthetic.

Best suited for display, large scale signage, and packaging. Used in Fellow Artisan Brand Guide.
